Very lucky not to be stranded in the high country right now! 3000 + feet elevation gain (to 12.6 k ft msl) over 6.7 miles. Definitely some avalanche-ridden terrain. Our group became separated and we all had to abort and snowshoe/ski back down in the dark. Huge storm blew in overnight (unbeknownst to us - who had certainly checked the weather report before heading out on such a trek- had just dumped 8 ft of snow on the Sierra Nevadas a day or so beforehand; we were only expecting 7 inches!), so it was actually a really good thing we got down when we did. Total of 13.5+ miles and 14.5 hours respectively humping packs and taking turns on sled hauling duty in the high country on Friday. Suffice to say it was a long day, but we had a amazing krewe (The Krewe of the Angry Yeti) and all managed to come away more or less unscathed (I started to throw out a bottle of Makers Mark I'd been carrying all day at the top of the mountain to purge weight out of my pack, but thought the better of it. Good decision.). I'll send you some pictures and will recount the story with great fervor over drinks at a later date.

We spent the rest of the weekend stranded in a hostel in Glenwood and soaking in the hot springs. You'll be happy to know that the bar in Woody Creek, CO (Hunter Thompson's local of many years) is tagged with several pieces of WWOZ and Rads paraphrenalia. Felt right at home.

Which brings me to my comment for DirtyCoast: we need y'all to come up with a new line of 'Krewe of the Angry Yeti' swag for us swamp loving mountain dwellers. I'll send you a picture of this angry yeti shadow puppet my sister gave me to serve as impetus for project. Would it make for a good t shirt? Probably not. Would it make me laugh? Definitely. You decide what's best.

I guess I've turned your blog into my blog. Sorry. Burn the Pita Pit!

Lots of love,

BooAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
